Republicans Lack Logic, Democrats Lack Will

Sam W. HuffThere is a void of reason in the United States and it begins in Washington D.C. If a person isn’t paying close attention, it would be all too easy to buy the lies that stream out of the mouths of Republicans on a regular basis. However, Congressional Democrats are not exactly on my list of people to admire lately either. The D.C. Democrats have completely caved in and taken out the withdrawal language from the Iraq War spending bill. Yes, just as I predicted, the Democrats have decided to fund the war with no benchmark requirements and no withdrawal dates. Are you surprised? According to my local newspaper, the Star Tribune, “Iraq’s military is drawing up plans on how to cope if U.S.-led forces leave the country quickly.” See? They’ll be all right if we leave, they just needed to be threatened with us leaving for them to actually jump into motion. Now we should actually leave and I bet they’ll do even more.

The Tribune also reported on some of the ongoing violence that is occurring during our occupation of Iraq: “At least 58 civilians were killed by attacks or found dead across Iraq, including seven people ambushed on a bus northeast of Baghdad, police said. The dead included 24 men whose bullet-riddled bodies were found across Baghdad, apparent victims of sectarian death squads.” Man, that sucks. Maybe we should stop drawing death squads to the streets of Baghdad by our presence there.

But Republicans are having none of this silly logic stuff. They like living in their alternative universe where the world owes us a thank you for our brilliance in saving people by killing them. Spreading Democracy through death. Nope, they are fixated on one word: Surrender.

“Bush and most Republicans have argued that setting goal dates for withdrawing U.S. troops would rob military commanders of the flexibility they need to conduct the war. Such timetables, according to many Republicans, amount to nothing more than “surrender dates.”

We can’t possibly surrender in a war we have “won”. Remember May 1st, 2003? Mission Accomplished? Silly Republicans, we won this war, we just forgot to go home afterwards. Saddam is long vanquished, even long dead at this point. It’s high time our soldiers came home and our War Czar and his Commander in Chief realized their idiotic war games are over. It’s time the Republicans grew up and stopped acting like petulant 3rd graders. This isn’t a game of Risk, it’s real life and real people have died. Not just the tens of thousands of Iraqis, but our own soldiers. Pick up a copy of this month’s Rolling Stone Magazine, and read the 8 profiles of those who have died in our president’s stupid war and when you’re done with it, give it to a Republican. Pictured: Sam Huff, died at age 18, killed by shrapnel from a roadside bomb in April 2005. (It’s not online.)

Comey Testimony Barely Covered by MSM

James ComeyTwo of the mainstream corporate media networks refused to cover the explosive testimony of James Comey on May 15. ABC and CBS did not cover this story, even though it could lead to the impeachment of George W. Bush. Why didn’t they cover it? Because it would be actual news that would not support the Bush administration. Also, it might be a little complicated for the talking head repeaters to understand and compress into neat soundbites. It’s a long story like the Plame-Wilson-Niger tale, that doesn’t fit neatly into a two-minute video clip. There is no beautiful CIA agent involved, so they probably don”t see any reason to cover the story at all. In fact, it involved a lot of people that aren’t even with the Bush administration anymore and thanks to the MSM, the American people probably never even heard of half of them.

In very compressed summary, here is the story: Comey testified that in 2004, as acting attorney general while John Ashcroft was in intensive care in the hospital, the Bush administration demanded that the warrantless wiretapping program be re-authorized. The Justice Department, temporarily headed by James Comey, refused, because they rightly felt it was illegal. Bush persisted, personally pushing for the program to be authorized, and Comey said no. Comey then got information that Alberto Gonzalez and Andrew Card were on their way to John Ashcroft’s hospital ICU to get his drugged-induced signature on the wiretapping program. Long story short, Comey rushed to the hospital to witness the arm-twisting, but John Ashcroft refused to sign off on it, and everyone was very very angry at Comey even though he did the right thing. Ashcroft refused to sigh on his own, and also pointed out that he wasn’t acting A.G. at the time.

Congress Should Listen

Here is Major General Paul Eaton in the second VoteVets.org online ad. This guy never smiles. I have seen him on Real Time with Bill Maher and he did not smile once during his interview there, either. In a way, I guess he has very little to smile about. At least people are finally telling us the truth and exposing the Bush lies behind the prosecution of the Iraq occupation.
