Civilianism #34 / Steal This Podcast

Taser this!No offense to fellow civilians, but many of us are passive, apathetic, overweight and buy too much food. Yes, Happy Thanksgiving. To save both the climate and our weight, how about walking more, taking light rail more, taking buses and subways more? Let s all stop driving our cars so much. We can act on changing our energy ways even if our government isn’t there yet and get exercise in the process.

Tased and confused? Americans need to wake up and be more than just observers, because the U.S. is tumbling towards becoming a Police State. Our fellow citizens are being dragged off, abused, shackled and/or tased to death just for exercising their freedom of speech, or for being mere annoyances. Republicans seem to love the use of tasers and violence against fellow Americans, fearful that everyone may be a terrorist. This cowardly attitude has also led to increased violence against Latino Americans in the U.S.
The FBI/MALDEF report is here. We need to end our acceptance of racism in the media and in politics, disguised as concern for our security!

Why are Americans so obedient and passive that we are letting a police state creep up on us? Why did a woman die while in police custody, and why are cops tasering so many people? I’m afraid our passivity is leading Americans to a blind obedience and acceptance of authority. How can we stop this!? Carol Ann Gotbaum’s tragic story is here. More information: Death by Taser: The Killer Alternative to Guns

Why is Saudi Arabia our ally again? I thought part of “spreading Democracy” involved fighting human rights abuses. I hope it’s not time to invade Saudi Arabia — or ourselves, according to John Bolton’s theory of how and why to win wars.

The coral reefs off the coast of Central and North America must be saved from climate change or they will die. From the Eco Moment, the organic yarn links from AJ to come . . . check back later. Check out the new, improved Civilianism forum while you are here.

Civilianism #33 / Keep Impeachment Alive

Shaved off mountain for Coal miningI am very hard on Republicans in this one. They deserve it! The occupation of Iraq continues and we need to end it, not accept levels of violence Americans would never in a million years accept. The surge is not working because people are still being murdered every day and the Resident can’t spin multiple daily body counts of any number a “success”. What would success look like? The U.S. out of Iraq and no violence — just like we would expect here in the United States. Continuing violence is not success. Our soldiers continue to die also, every single week, if not every day.

Daily body counts here
Juan Cole’s website for daily reports.

Dennis Kucinich introduced impeachment on November 7th, Republicans supported it, and it ended up in the House Judiciary Committee! So it’s not yet dead, but not really alive. Dennis Kucinich also gets off some good remarks, when he’s allowed to talk, in the Democratic debate. Support him by calling him, and here is the number to call for John Conyers, who is the head of the HJC. The main number for Congress – the Senate and House – in Washington, DC.

The coal industry sponsored the Democratic debate on November 15th! Did they know that? Nuclear power is mostly clean, safe energy. It might be the power of the future. If you agree or disagree, call my Skype line and comment! 320-300-4273

Civilianism #32 / Underreported News

No More War for OilThe U.S. is not OK. Our media is not informing us! News we should know and need to know is too often unreported and then, only in non-USA newspapers. We need to hold U.S. media accountable by telling them they are hurting democracy by what they leave out. They never tell us what’s going on in Palestine — it seems they have the same inexplicable pro-Zionism agenda that our government has. And, are we are war with Syria? The USAF bombed Syria in September and no media in the United States even bothered to dig deeper to find out the truth of who, what, when where and why, the basics of news writing.

Bombing raids continue to kill civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan and these terrible incidents are misreported or not reported at all by our media. We have to look to foreign news online for our news. What is wrong with this picture?
And as Pakistan implodes we have Pervez Musharraf declaring himself a military dictator — a sign of things to come here in the United States?
