Civilianism #50 / Fantasy President Angst

Fantasy President Angst Cynthia McKinney, candidate for president, has her preliminary Presidential website here. She is running for president as a member of the Green party. Thanks to: Kel for the comedy clip on Fox News, Chris the Carpenter from the Lifted Lorax podcast, Bill the blogger (and former podcaster) of The Filth and the Fury, and Rami “Bloc” from Quebec. Also a shout out to GOP Exposed and an empathetic hug to the millions of Americans who manage to enjoy a penis-free life. Could it be . . . you don’t need one to be President?

Mainly this was to be a Skype conference call test podcast and I got distracted by dreaming of my fantasy president, inspired by an email I received, and things going on with the candidates, Israel and Gaza. Here’s that website — IMEMC — that’s a good source of Gaza/Israel news. Gaza continues to suffer, and though occasional rockets hit inside Israel, most harming no one, Palestinians in Gaza continue to suffer and are killed on a daily basis.

Which two are more of a real change for President: a black man vs. a white man, a southerner vs. a northerner, or a man vs. a woman?
Which is better: to vote your ideals, or to vote strategy to keep the Republican out of office?
Are there big differences between the two major parties, and how would we go about getting more viable parties in this country?

These and other things would be good topics for Skype calls in the future. Sign up with Skype and add me as a contact so you can be in one of the upcoming Civilianism skypecasts. Also feel free to suggest topics.

Civilianism #49 / Rejecting Conventional Wisdom

Obama ReligiousNot to disagree with mainstream America just for fun, but I really don’t like Kool Aid all that much. It’s so full of empty calories. In this episode I discuss the Iraq surge, the bombing campaign in Iraq, how people seem to keep forgetting we’re at war and how Americans seem to be in waiting mode. We really can’t afford to wait for a new president to start impeachment and other important work. Meanwhile, we’re bombing Iraq into oblivion. Why don’t we stop doing that? See this website for more on our bombing campaign in Iraq. And whaddaya know: Iran is complying with the IAEA, says the new Feb. 22 report. See more on that here.

Civilianism #48 / Candidate Discussion Pt. 2

Bright Lights Obama HillaryProgressive and democratic thought is mainstream in the U.S. Did you know that? You wouldn’t if you relied on the Mainstream Media because the talking heads are conservative-leaning, while Americans are not.

I think I might have seasonal affective disorder. Or, presidential candidate affective disorder.

First ladies throughout history have been everything from very politically involved in their husband’s presidencies, to not very involved at all. Strong first ladies that were very involved include Abigail Adams (nicknamed “Mrs. President) , Eleanor Roosevelt, and Hillary Clinton. The PBS discussion of this is here.

The debate on Obama vs. Hillary is continued. Thanks to Jeff of GOPexposed.com for the discussion on politics and Obama.

I have a couple of questions in this podcast I welcome your input on:

Question 1: Should the Democratic primaries in Michigan and Florida be redone as caucuses: both, just one, or just use the results we already have from both?

Question 2: How can Obama vote to fund the war and be the anti-war candidate?

You can send your answer here or call the Skype line.

Let’s put the Democratic party back to the left where it belongs! Here is The Nation article on how America is progressive as a whole. Will a Progressive Majority Emerge?

Civilianism #47 / Why Not Hillary? A Discussion

Obama and HillaryI have concluded, due to my brief experiences with online conservative radio, that I have to do more podcasts to share information with people and I need your help. Help me by sharing information you know. Let’s have some conversations about politics, issues and the state of the world, and most of all, how to defeat the Republicans in November. We can do this. Let’s get Republicans out of Washington. More podcasts means less time I’ll have to spend on them so help me out!

Today I talk to an Obama supporter for his viewpoints on why Barack Obama would make a good president.
We end up comparing Hillary Clinton and Obama. This is part I, and the supporter is Jeff of the podcast GOP Exposed.
But first, a discussion of the House Vote on FISA.

Yes, Republicans, we ARE bombing people in Iraq and Afghanistan. Not just that, we are dropping “individual” bombs on people via Predator drones. Here is just one of hundreds of articles on the subject.

Civilianism #46 / Laws and Politics

The anti-madwhackSuper Tuesday and I am boycotting the MN state caucus due to undue media influence and several other things like lack of choice, but that doesn’t stop me from recommending a Democrat for you to support. You will have to listen to find out who.

One thing Con-servatives are scaring us with: this ridiculous idea that they need to spy on all Americans in order to catch terrorists emailing Americans, or something terrible will happen. All this in order to pass the telecom immunity aspect of the “new” supposedly-fixed FISA bill. To protest telecom immunity, call your Senator as soon as you can: 202 225-3121

Hear what Mark Klein, former AT&T employee, had to say about what he was asked to do by the government.

Bush and his signing statements are clearly becoming impeachable offenses, as he ignores law after law. The latest laws he ignores are major ones in the National Defense Authorization Act.

Something to be ashamed of: The atrocious and massive Bush budget that contains nearly unlimited money for “Defense” but punishes American public school kids for needing Medicare services (their right) by denying them transportation and help, and instead pushes them towards privatized school.

Civilianism #45 / Reasons Republicans Have to Go!

Filed under: Democrats, Podcasts, Politics, War and Peace — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , — shellius @ 11:04 am February 1, 2008

GOP must Go!Today, a discussion of some reasons republicans have to go. They cannot take over the White House in 2009, or we might as well succumb to the next asteroid. It’s over for life as we know it if Republicans continue to run the country. Hillary and Obama: this is what’s left. For me, this leaves no choice, but at the same time, a bigger choice:Â Â Can I even support a Democrat who’s not really a liberal? The answer might surprise you.
Social and economic justice issues are but one reason that Republicans have to go! Royal Dutch Shell made 26.7 Billion dollars in 2007, while the poor people of Haiti are literally eating dirt.

In order to start battling climate change, we have to get out of Iraq. NOW.
And cap and trade is probably past its prime as an idea

Bush misleads on Troop withdrawals

The candidates refused to fight in the debate on Thursday night, so I fight for them! Hillary voted to authorize the war, sure, but she’s not alone. Barack Obama wasn’t ALL THAT against the war, either — more that he thought it was a bad strategy. And eventually, Obama got on board with AIPAC: see How Obama learned to love Israel and AIPAC.

One million Iraqis dead in war:

“MORE than one million Iraqis have died because of the war in Iraq since the US-led invasion of the country in 2003, according to a study.

The study based its findings on survey work involving the face-to-face questioning of 2414 Iraqi adults aged 18 or above, and the last complete census in Iraq in 1997, which indicated a total of 4.05 million households. “We now estimate that the death toll between March 2003 and August 2007 is likely to have been in the order of 1,033,000,” ORB said in a statement. The margin of error for the survey was 1.7 per cent, making the estimated range between 946,000 and 1.12 million fatalities.”

Congressman Keith Ellison (D-MN) went to Norway to study a Department of Peace because he’s smart, so I guess that makes him Islamointelligentsia.

The surge is hampering Iraq reconciliation. Bush bragged that this is great. It’s not. All these stories and more in Civilianism episode #45, which you can directly download right here.
